Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement

Knowledge and Understanding of DEI

“Privilege is entirely wasted on the privileged if it is not deployed to lift up those without it.”1

Track Record on DEI

Currently, I sit on the DEI Committee at the University of Minnesota, Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation (ISRDI). In this role, I have helped with the promotion of diverse scholars within the social science community. A major accomplishment of this committee being our Diversity Fellowship Program matching aspiring scholars from under-represented backgrounds with established reserachers and research projects at ISRDI. Additionally, we curated a researcher support toolkit for ISRDI members (and more broadly) in an attempt to democratize the hidden curriculum that underscores success and advancement in academia. Lastly, I have supported the curation of articles by authors from diverse backgrounds on research topics related to margianlized communities which we promote through Research Friday’s – disseminating and promoting their work via social media.

In my previous work as a research associate at the University Michigan, I have worked with several African scholars from Ghana, Malawi, and Mozambique. To support their further pursuit within the economics profession, I have provided guidance as well as letters of support for them to pursue Master’s programs and fellowships.
